Ever since it was first released in 2009, the Hyundai Genesis has always had a stellar reputation for its excellent performance, jaw-dropping style and unheard of value.
Fast forward to the 2013 Genesis Coupe and those three pillars are not only upheld, they have been improved upon even further.
From the interior, to the exterior, and underneath the hood, Hyundai has managed to make an exceptional rear drive sports car even better. And it all starts with the engine.
“Under the hood, the 2013 Genesis Coupe's engines have been heavily revised to deliver significantly more horsepower and torque and - you guessed it - improved fuel efficiency to boot,” says Automobile Magazine’s Jason Udy.
“The 2.0-liter turbocharged mill was fitted with a new twin-scroll turbocharger and larger, more efficient intercooler that helps boost output to 274 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque -- up 64 and 52 respectively over the outgoing engine.”
The suspension has also been updated to match the improved performance.
“Underpinning it all is a body shell that uses generous amounts of ultra-high-tensile steel and a retuned suspension designed to better harness the 2013 Genesis Coupe's new found power,” says Udy.
Inside and out, the new Genesis Coupe has an updated, more aggressive design that is sure to appeal to the masses.
“While performance-heads are likely to focus on all those performance improvements, Hyundai has honed the Genesis Coupe's look for 2013 as well,” says Motor Authority’s Bengt Halvorson. “It's no about-face—enthusiasts will have no problem recognizing it—but the new model has a more aggressive front end, with crisper detailing around the headlamps and lower air dam, a trapezoidal, blacked-out bumper-and-grille area, and new character lines added to the flanks.”
The interior has been reworked in some areas, with Hyundai designers keeping comfort and practicality top-of-mind.
“Hyundai has added new soft-touch materials, with a stitched-seam appearance for the instrument-panel top, plus an electroluminescent gauge cluster,” says Halvorson. “And rear-seat access should be a bit easier from the driver's side with a new walk-in assist function. A center fascia tray and seatback pockets have been added, for more storage.”
The hotly anticipated 2013 Genesis Coupe will be released later on in the year.

How do you make the award winning Hyundai Veloster even better? Simple. Make it faster and more stylish. Not an easy task when you’re talking about a car that garnered so much positive feedback last year, but Hyundai managed to go above and beyond with the all-new 2013 Veloster Turbo.
If you watched the Super Bowl earlier this month, you may have seen an ad for the Veloster Turbo where a cheetah turns down a race with this all-new speed machine. And for good reason. The new version of the Veloster is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection engine that delivers 201 HP.
“With 201 horsepower and way more accessible torque, the twin-scroll-turbocharged version of Hyundai's 'Gamma' 1.6-liter, direct-injection four-cylinder engine should give the Veloster a very different driving personality,” says Motor Authority’s Bengt Halvorson. “The Gamma Turbo GDI engine includes a twin-scroll turbocharger and wastegate system for quick spool up and near-instantaneous power delivery.”
The Veloster Turbo has not lost anything when it comes to fuel economy. In fact, it has best in-class highway fuel economy, with the American EPA giving it a rating of 38 mpg, or approximately 6.19L/100km.
The Veloster Turbo is more than a few changes under the hood. The exterior has received a makeover that gives it a more aggressive looking front end that suits the more powerful engine incredibly well.
“The Turbo version adds aggression and aerodynamic stability to the stout little machine, allowing it to look better than ever," says a review by TopSpeed.com.
"The Veloster Turbo’s unique design takes inspiration from a custom high-performance sport bike, starting with the exhaust system. The standard trapezoidal center exhaust has been replaced with two larger free flowing circular pipes that, combined with new intake manifold, also allowed engineers to give the engine a more robust sound to delight enthusiasts."
“The Veloster received a bigger, bolder hexagonal front grille, more sculpted side skirts, and a new dynamic rear bumper with prominent diffuser vents in the lower fascia as part of the aerodynamic package associated with the Turbo model.”
The Veloster Turbo will be available this summer. Stay tuned to the Hyundai Gallery Facebook page for updates on the Veloster Turbo. Post your comments and let us know what Hyundai topics are on your mind.
